Well, it's a past season hunt that I got confirmation on today.
Toward the end of general season I took out a spike with my bow, and situation was less then desirable, he busted me a little to soon, and lacking wisdom in the moment I tried the shot as he spooked. The arrow went directly into the base of his neck and into a vertebrae. He layed right there needless to say.
We keep and use most everything we can off the deer I kill, so this evening my wife had thawed out the neck, (for small roast and bone broth) that we knew had the broadhead still in it. After cooking the neck down a bit I retrieved the vertebrae that had the head and pulled it out.
Here's the good part. No bent ferule, no tweak, not even a chipped blade. Dull was all that was wrong. All I have to do is re-sharpen. All the talk about tuff heads, and most reliable. Well... I think I will stay with tested and true.
