When Does a Buck Start to Look Impressive

This is very subjective. Some here hunt high fence. Some here may only see a few bucks a year. Some hunt the Edwars Plateau where a mature buck might weigh 120lbs some hunt the panhandle where a buck might go 220lbs.

What score do you personally begin thinking a buck looks impressive. For me I think a deer starts looking inpressive around the 145 mark. When I see a buck scoring in that range in person it gets my heart beating a little more quickly or it casuses me to take considerable pause while browsing trail cam pictures.

Im not saying thats the criteria for shooting a buck passed on 2 this year in the upper 40s lower 50s. But it doesn't change the fact they looked good!

What say you green screen. When do you start getting excited by a rack?

I get excited when they are older than 3.5 and nobody has shot them because they needed meat or the neighbors would've.

I'd say 3.5 as well! Start looking mature and have a few battle scars on them. Big bodies and face change

I like age over antler size. Don't get me wrong, big racks come with age but I'd rather take a 120" 6.5 yr old deer vs a 145" 3.5yr old.

Something about seeing those older bucks, when they walk in and you know they run the place.

They usually look real impressive when I have my pin right behind their shoulder!!

But any deer over 4.5 is impressive for me. That is a long time to survive in the woods.

i like age more then score.

I've seen monster 3.5 year olds but it's funny how the environment changes when a heavy bodied 5.5 and older deer comes rolling in. The deer don't care about headgear as much as they recognize when the boss just showed up.

145 is a good number I don't care how old the buck is.

                    Hill Country - after 5.5

                    South Texas - after 7.5

                    East Texas - after a 12 pack, 9 pm.

Man that's too hard for me to answer, it depends on where I am hunting. My favorite place to hunt is in the hill country so I would have to say 130" out there makes me go woah. To me 130" hill country deer is a trophy, in S TX, that's just 'another buck'.

Just to clarify score of rack irrespective of age. Not saying you will shoot the deer or consider it a trophy but when does the rack start looking inpressive?
