With the rut starting later in South Texas the past 3 to 4 years I'm wondering if the TPWd would consider letting the regular season just end towards the end of January. How does the green screen feel?

Honestly what would be the harm in extending the regular season for another 30 days? Would the additional deer taken during that time prove detrimental to the overall population or would it simply give hunters extra time in the woods during wintertime conditions? I know I'd be all for it. Consider also the additional economic stimulation that would occur as a result. Unless the end result would cause the deer population to dwindle too far I'd be all for it.
If they made it archery only for the last 30 days I'd really be all for it. I know that's selfish but maybe that's the best solution overall. Again JMHO. Your mileage may vary.

as long as they move doe season to before the rut Im in for anything. I don't like the killing of does after rut. It makes no sense to me you don't know what genes that momma has in her belly and if you want to kill for meat or to decrease numbers early season before stress of rut would be getter for meat hunters

This is spot on! I have been saying this for years myself.

For now, I would settle for an equal season across the state. I would love the extra 2 weeks south Texas gets. Of course I hunt less than 5 miles north of the divider (90) so it is probably more the fact that someone who takes a left where I take a right off the main road gets 2 more weeks, but it has never made sense to me. I know it started off as south Texas starting 2 weeks later and then they just dropped that.
Either way I have always been in favor of a season through the end of January instead of the end of December. Throwing out anything related to deer, it is always tough to hunt the last 2 weeks of the season with those being xmas and New Year's. I know personally I would not hunt the last 2 weeks of December during the holidays like I do if the season ran longer.
I have also never understood the argument about taking more deer or population affects. Each hunter has 4 tags which dictates how many deer they can take, not the length of the season. I would guess that the people that are concerned with using all 4 tags will do it regardless of the length of season. In turn, the people that only kill a deer or 2 will still only kill a deer or 2. I don't see these people shooting extra deer just because the season is longer.
