Bibs for road riding, I wear them under clothes when I suspect a long day of city riding.
Shorts under cut-off dickies or "man-pris" because bibs suck for stopping to water the trail, and the things you encounter like cactus and dirt crashes can ruin expensive apparel hence the dickies

Ride a big city's critical mass....atleast in Houston. Once a month and you will see some dressed like this

On the spandex thing do what you wish...I have a few friends that are hardcore that do it..I will wear them ifbits a long ride but I wear normal shorts over them. No issues wearig 2 layers

Fox mountain bike shorts is what I use with the padded liner. Works great for the long trail rides
