    bicycle shorts

So I am going to try to get into riding a bike during my off days for running. Here is the deal though. I know that I need to wear the spandex shorts but its just not a good look on a man. Would it be acceptable to wear them under regular gym shorts, or is that frowned upon?

I will not be caught dead on my bike in spandex - I wear them under my gym shorts.

I frown upon those that dont do the same.

Try mountain bike shorts. They look like cargo shorts but have the padding in the rear end. That's what I went with to avoid spandex

Don't worry about what everyone thinks JUST ride your bike. Obviously, if your fat and going to ride up to your kids school or something don't wear tight cycling shorts and look like a ******!
Bike shops have tons of loose fitting cycling shorts these days, most can't be distinguished from casual shorts.
Good luck and good job on more exercise.

Since when do you have to wear spandex to ride a bike? If your not bicycle girl....regular exercise clothes are fine.

I grew up riding bikes with my friends everywhere we went. None of us wore spandex.

They make shorts for mountain biking where the but pad is built in. Get those. Kill this thread.

I don't road bike, simply for this reason. I am not what you would call skinny by any means. Therefore I mountain bike. I love mad bombing thru the trees and gettin dirty, bumped, and scraped. So my attire is cargo shorts and a tee shirt. A helmet is still a MUST!!

I'm not talking about riding a BMX around the neighborhood. I'm talking about riding 20+ miles 3 days a week. I'm all for the girls wearing them. They are built for that kinda thing. But if they stuck a big sausage link in the front, then it wouldn't look as good.
