Another proposal from the Federal Department of Stupid Ideas

I just copied this off the Dow Jones newswire:

U.S. President Barack Obama will propose a $10-a-barrel fee on oil in his budget plan next week, as the White House seeks to boost the nation's investments in clean transportation projects, the White House said on Thursday. The fee, which would be paid by oil companies, is likely to fall flat in the Republican-controlled Congress. In the last year of his presidency, Obama has said the country must stop subsidizing the "dirty" fossil fuels of the past and focus on clean, renewable fuels that do not exacerbate climate change.

But don't worry! The tax will be paid by those big ,mean and nasty oil companies - I'm sure they would never pass that cost on down to consumers!

The economic ignorance of these people knows no bounds....

What an idiot. I don't know that we will ever be at a point where we don't use fossil fuels. If he was serious, we would stop subsidizing the wind and ethanol industry and convert everything to natural gas (much cheaper, much more abundant, and no CO2 emissions). Then, we use nuclear plants for electricity, and our carbon footprint would be reduced by a meaningful amount. Not that I necessarily agree with global warming, but if that is your stance and reason behind eliminating fossil fuels, there are better ways to do it other than taxing oil more and subsidizing wind and ethanol (neither of which could stand on their own without the subsidies).

Well said! If he could come up with any other way to sabotage or totally cripple the oil industry he'd push it also, IMO his goal is to destroy our country entirely.

Not true. If the price of oil were $20/barrel, at least we would see gas even cheaper. His proposal would put more oilfield workers out of work and raise the price of gas...loose - loose for everybody.

He tried to kill American oil through regulation.. He failed, now he is allowing The Saudis and OPEC along with Iran to do it through flooding the market. The only way his clean agenda works is for fuel cost to be through the roof . Once America oil is bankrupt or severely crippled , let America become 100% dependent on Middle East oil. And through embargos etc drive fuel prices through the roof. Sounds irrational and backwards but it's all I can come up with. He had an agenda and it **** sure isn't in the best interest of America

Some states with black oil are not receiving WTI prices. Right now, they are netting about $10/barrel profit. They would be in red ink with that. Has anyone every compared the dirty output of a volcano to all the industrial/consumer emissions in the world? Don't mention facts. It could take the wind out of Al Gore's sail as he invented the Internet, and also invented Global Warming. I wonder what he will invent next?
