    Pups first point

Took my 7 month old GSP this weekend to lease hoping to get him on some birds today. His only experience with birds is retrieving frozen birds in the backyard. I corned the roads all weekend trying to get the birds closer to the road and also do a little high rack hunting.

Started out late this morning walking down the main road with no success. We loaded in the jeep to see if we could bust any coveys and then get him on them but that dident work out either.

Ended up at the east fence line walking south. Wind was West North West. Not the most favorable but it would do. In the beginning a few coveys busted way to far away but Gus (my dog) saw the birds and got excited.

I was walking by myself with Gus about 15 feet in front of me. As soon as I passed the aggarita bush in the picture Gus did a quick 180 and got within 10ft of the bush before he started creeping. He stopped about 5 feet from the bush and held point while I fumbled with my phone.

After the pic I walked in to see if he was right and when I got next to him i could see about 15 bobs under the bush. I got about halfway between Gus and the bush and he started creeping along with me.

Now I am trying to figure out how to bust this covey while still having a decent shot. I went around the left side thinking that if I bust them into the wind it would be an easy shot. Too my dismay they busted in my face and I was able to get one shot off but to Gus's disapointment I missed.

He was pretty wore out by this point but he got me on another single in a mesquite thicket but i had no shot when the bird busted.

Have to brag on him for not only having his first point but also holding it like a champ!!!
