    Stihl MS170 vs 171

Anyone run the MS170 chainsaw? What's gage difference?

Main difference is the 171 has the chain tension adjustment on the side instead of on the front like the 170. To me that feature alone is worth the added cost.

I went to the local dealer asking these same questions last year.

The 171 costs more and I told him to convince me to buy it. He told me to go with the 170. The 171 has a reduced emission thing that reduces power at certain intervals.

I only need a saw 1-3 times a year and run tru fuel through my 170. Been good so far.

Chain tensioner isn't an issue. Most saws have a front tensioner.
