sorry ive been away so long, hope everyone has had a good season.
i have posted some about finishing up in east texas and looking in south
texas, west of dallas, hill country etc etc before the tbh upgrade.
i was swatting some mosquitos one morning and this little dude popped up about 10yds or less from me, its still hard to believe i did it givin to poor deer lease im on is overhunted and they shoot anything that moves, but i passed the best deer ive ever saw during bow season due to several factors.
1) it was 230yds from the stand i would have my dad hunting opening rifle season.
2) there was lots of water in the woods so tracking might be a problem.
the trail he is walking down is only about 12ft wide in most places
and I had several 12ft to 16ft locations overlooking him and had spent 5 years there waiting for a deer like him to come out, it just so happened
that the lumber company and seismic survey people were cutting up the property on the other side of the lease, so with a swamp behind me and
them in front I was hopeing he would stay a week or so for dad to get the shot. Opening day in rifle season found me listening to what sounded like vietnam,
I thaught for sure the east texas buck was gone to the swamp for the season, I had just said a prayer (5:13pm)that was something to the affect of please
let dad........ and thats when the cracking sound of his rifle come from back in the bottom. (5:15pm). I knew my dad had got that particular buck that we talked about all night long
When the four wheeler lights finally came from out of the bottom, I could see the sillouette and was jumping in the air like mattress mack, mad dad
had to calm me down, it was no trophy in some areas but for this 3800 acres
with 38 guns blasting it was like winning the olympics.
I told my wife that night on the phone that my season was over.
I knew what was on the lease, I fed protein all year and scattered cameras
like illegals in san antonio. my dad has had a rough year or two and
I can rest fine when he is gone knowing I returned a favor that he once gave me. I love hunting but this year I was okay when work called and I couldnt go hunting. My dad had already said this was his last season for sure, and now he is talking about hunting next year again...
I almost paid $3500 for him to go to a known ranch and shoot one not much bigger than this one. He would not have been happy with it though.
here are my favorite before and after pics, not in order.
