I have worn so many different boots over 32 years that I can't remember them all.

I can remember Magnums (very comfotable but lasted about 10 miles or 10 days, whichever came first), Bates, Adidas, Rainier, Rocky, Thorogood, Rothco and Original SWAT.

I am sure there are others. I am currently using Original SWAT and like them as much as any others that I have tried. I have probably had more Bates than any others, mostly out of convenience since they are easier to find over the counter. About the only ones that really sucked were the Hi-Tec Magnums. They tended to blow out fairly easily when wet. They seemed to be all the rage back when they hit the market back in the 80's but I saw more than one officer (including me) where the entire sole of a boot came off. I don't know if they ever improved but I will never try them again to find out.

I might stick with these Original SWAT on my next pair..... which might be my last ones.

Ive never had a pair of Bates that would last 6mos when i first started. Bought those because they were the cheapest. Since then Ive worn many, but the last 2 pair I bought have been the 5.11 ATAC. Comfortable, totally waterproof and seem to hold up. I work K9 so spend a fair amount of time searching cars, buildings, and the woods so I am hard on boots.

I'm no officer but just ordered a pair of steel toe Haix yesterday. Everyone at work that has them loves them. They make lots of different boots for fire, ems, police and so on.

HAIX is a leading manufacturer of high quality, functional footwear to thousands of firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, law enforcement officers, loggers, arborists, and safety workers worldwide.

Warranty or not IMO theres no reason to replace a work boot after only 12 months of use. Especially when they cost 100 bucks.

I'm not an officer but I've used their warranty for the last 3 years on all my running shoes and haven't had to pay out of pocket for new ones yet.

matterhorn 1949 boot wore them from 88 to 96 after resoleing them 3 times then I bought a pair of danner ft lewis and they didn't wear as well as the matterhorns, I wore them for 6 years before the leather began to tear by the toe box. I went back to the matterhorns until I went to motorcycle unit 6 years ago from 87 to 88 I wore redwing pull on boot. like tvc184 said the explosion of tactical boots in the 80's were there from economy to expensive, I spent more up front and got more service and comfort from a better boot hope this helps.

I can't get a pair of Bates boots to last more than 6-8 months. I'm currently wearing some leather Oakley boots my wife found online. I wear a size 16 in running shoe, 14 in cowboy boots and 15-16 in work boots. It just depends on how they are made.

I have Danner Ft. Lewis but they are getting too heavy for my old feet. I also have a pair of Danner TFX, lighter but it look that won't last more than a year.

Danner kinetics. Boots, but feel like tennis shoes and are light. I go through a pair every 2 years
