    Sick, Fat, and nearly Dead

Well, Im not that bad but feel like it sometimes. Actually that is the name of a movie I watched on Netflix. Its about a guy that literally juiced his way to a slim body and healthy life.
Heres the problem. Im sixty now and these people are working me like a sugar mill jack-***. Our normal day is 10 hours but soon we will return to working six twelves. Not how I envisioned my life at age sixty.
When I get home Im tired and simply don't have the energy to get dressed and go to the gym. I walk an average of 3-4 miles a day at work and still have weight on me that I cant seem to get off.
Several years ago my wife bought me a Jack La Lane juicer which I really like and plan on getting started with again. Problem is that juicing is very cost prohibitive simply because of the volume of fruits and vegetables it takes to extract the juice.
Id like to hear from some of the gentlemen my age and possibly in my situation regarding their health tips, however; I will gladly welcome any advice from my younger brothers as well.
    Blessings and thanks

Walking that much daily is adequate exercise at the age of 60. Health and fitness is AT LEAST 80% diet.

Scrap the juicer idea, juice is predominantly sugar. Stop eating food that comes in packages.

I tried it for a week. Your energy will go down, before it comes up. After 3 days I started to not feel so sluggish. Mind you, my other half was prego, so it was a little tough to stay on this juicing diet. I quit after a week, potato chips don't make a lot of juice. Good luck!

Drink water all day (I drink a bottle per hour), don't eat between meals (hard at first but easier as the desire subsides), and drink less alcohol. It's much easier if your wife mirrors your plan.

I am soon to be 58 and in poor physical condition. My problem stems from poor diet and working a desk job. I am trying to eat more salads, fruits and whole grains. I am also making a conscious effort to do more walking throughout the day, usually hitting around three miles. I also have started doing 20 minutes of core exercises (stretching, crunches, leg lifts, planks and side planks, push ups) a minimum of 3 times a week. The core exercises are really helping from a flexibility standpoint. I also am riding a stationary bike some and about to start some weight training. Good luck with your program.

This is probably the biggest thing here. And is VERY good advise. Lots of proteins, fruit, veggies, etc. I eat a lot of deer jerky. No fat and pure protein. This salt might be bad for me, but hey it's not from a plastic wrapper

Eat in front of a mirror and see if you still have an appetite. Just eat less.

I agree with this as well. I found a variation of Paleo, Primal Blueprint to be a very comprehensive health and fitness lifestyle. It's comprised of 10 very simple principles.

Primal Blueprint Law #1: Eat Lots of Plants and Animals

Primal Blueprint Law #2: Avoid Poisonous Things

Primal Blueprint Law #3: Move Frequently at a Slow Pace

Primal Blueprint Law #4: Lift Heavy Things

Primal Blueprint Law #5: Sprint Once in a While

Primal Blueprint Law #6: Get Adequate Sleep

                    Primal Blueprint Law #7: Play

Primal Blueprint Law #8: Get Adequate Sunlight

Primal Blueprint Law #9: Avoid Stupid Mistakes

Primal Blueprint Law #10: Use Your Brain

They sell dietary products, but I did it without purchasing anything, except the book, and just eating whole foods from my local store.

I don't understand why anyone would want to use a juicer.

You keep the liquid sugars and throw away the fiber? And on top of that the juice alone wouldn't be as sating as the entire pulp.

You can get Premier Protein Shakes from Costco. 1g of sugar, 160 calories, 30g protein. Drink one for breakfast and lunch and have a small snack in between. Eat a regular portion control dinner. Drink plenty of water through out the day. You will lose weight.
                        Stop drinking soda!!!!

I don't know your eating or drinking habits buy I'll tell you what worked for me. Several years ago, I weighed 364 lb. I worked as a consultant in the oilfield building roads and locations. Six to seven days a week, but chasing 5/7 rigs, I was in the seat of my truck most of the time. My breakfast was Whataburger, my lunches were typical restaurant fare, hamburgers, fries, chicken fried........you get it. So, I had low blood platelets and my doctor sent me to an oncologist. I sat there in the waiting room, looking around at the poor folks with cancer, and it scared the hell out of me. Turned out I did not have cancer, but I embarked on a new program. All I did, was cut out breakfasts on a bun ( which I still love ), hamburgers, and french fries. Cut out all sweets. Started eating salads a couple nights a week. The weight literally fell off me. I lost 60 lb. in four months. Dropped two pants sizes. I don't know if that will be your experience, but it was mine. Good luck !

Stop eating processed foods and eat real food only. Eat meat, vegetables and fruit. Drink lots of water and get yourself a good multi vitamin that you take daily. You are getting enough physical activity but your diet is what is needing to change obviously. Also, dont set unrealistic expectations. If you are doing things right you will lose about 1 lb per week on avg. In a year's time that is 52 lbs. The key to eating healthy is preparation. Cook enough at one time for multiple meals. I usually have for lunch whatever I had the night before for dinner. Also, make sure you are eating breakfast every morning. I didnt do this for 50 years and now it is a must for me. Dont buy low fat stuff. Dont use margarine. Eggs, bacon, real butter, chicken skin, etc are all good for you as long as you eat them in reasonable amounts. I changed my was about 3 years ago and have never looked back. Best thing I ever did for myself. Good luck.

Sounds like you are doing plenty of walking so the obvious issue is what you are eating. Lots of good advice here. Come check this thread out when you get a few...
