    Winter Trotlines

Here in NE Tx it's gonna be 70 degrees this weekend I was thinking of running some lines at a lake I have great success during the summer.. Anyone here Trotlines during the winter? Any pointers or tips would be appreciated

In our area, the big blues suspend out in the main lake in the winter. That's all I know to tell you, haven't run trotlines in a while since I switched to jugs.

It's been my experience that the fish are still there even in the winter!

      Deeper water and enjoy!

Some of the biggest carp and cats I have caught were in the winter, deep cover.

My best catfishing is always in the wintertime.

In rivers growing up when we found them we found them all.

Blues will be under the bird roosts right about daylight. They will hit about anything you throw out there. Nothing like winter fishing under the cormorant birds.

when we used to trotline Lake Livingston, we always started in January/Feb... Big fish all seemed to bee suspended about 1/2 way between the bottom and surface... I think probably along a thermocline. I say that because we used live perch and if we fished our lines too deep, the perch would die... We'd raise 'em up and if something didn't get 'em, they'd live a week on the line. Soon as the weather started the spring warm-up, they'd move very shallow... really too shallow to safely trotline fish and keep your lines out of boat traffic.

I heard they are catching on Lake Cooper pretty good right now.
I would be putting out jugs on the flats just off a creek channel so they can drift toward a wind blown bank or point. This time of year cut carp, buffalo and big gizzard shad are sure thing. Also garlic soaked chicken breast and live bluegill. I run my jug baits about 6 to 8ft. Anywhere near where the Cormorants are roosting will be holding lots of good sized blues. Twok, Lavon and Hubbard are also hot right now. Twok just produced an 80lb blue on rod and reel week before last. Saw it on TFF site.http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/...e#Post11352280
