    My life.

I sometimes forget to count my blessings. I'm sitting by a fire pit with my wife enjoying the night with her. Sure, I have problems, income taxes, work and such, but all in all, life's pretty good.

Pastor talked about having a "Balanced Soul" today. One of the songs we sang was "It is well with my soul", written by Horatio Spafford. Horatio wrote the song right after all four of his children were killed in a ship accident. He and his wife later lost their 5th child when he was a teenager and to top it off, the church they were with turned their back on them because they thought they were being punished by God. In the end, they sold all their assets and moved to Jerusalem and ended up helping orphans and being parents to other children. They were described as having a "Balanced Soul"...Perspective, faith, and the willingness to adjust and understand there is a bigger picture than our myopic view.

One of my favorite hymns. When I'm having a crappy day, I remember the words, "It is well with my soul." It's the simple pleasures of life that are true blessings, as Coon mentioned.

To true. A little over a year ago I was life flighted and put on life support around thanksgiving. Dr.s told my wife I would be on life support for weeks and probably in the hospital till after the new year. A week later I was walking out of the hospital. God is good and the little problems and the big problems are all in his hands.

I love singing that song. Knowing the story behind it makes it even better.

"When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll, what ever my lot, He has taught me to say it is well, it is well with my soul! "

Having a good wife, a loving family, a job that pays the bills, and a relationship with my Creator makes the bumps in life much easier to deal with.

Its easy to fall into the " why arent things better " mindset.
And i have been there many times. My whole life i have dreamed of owning even a small piece of property. At 46 i was convinced it would never happen. Yesterday i was on my little tractor removing some of the cactus on my new place and at one point i could see my wife a hundred yards away sitting in her chair under a big oak reading a book and my children running and playing with makshift swords chasing each other on our new 11ac place.
My life is wonderful...even though i sometimes focus on the wrong things. Yesterday was a reminder that i am blessed beyond what i deserve. And the best thing about yesterday was my 7y/o son was baptized. He came to my wife an i 3 weeks ago all on his own with out any prompting and asked when he could be baptized because he loved the lord and wanted to show God he was serious.
