    Deerlease Rules and Regulations

    Yes this topic again...

For those that lease out land or manage a lease - help me understand the following.

Let's say - on a certain lease the paying hunter is allowed to bring family up to hunt as well as guests (within reason). All kills go against paying hunter's allotment of (1 Trophy WT - 1 Trophy Axis - 1 WT cull - 1 Axis Cull - 4 Axis Doe and 1 - WT Doe) in addition to any other other mature exotic that might wander through.

What reason would the landowner / lease manager have to complain about the family member or guest shooting the trophy animal? Again - this would be off the paying members allotment.

I know nothing here is going to change my situation - the landowner is the final say. Just trying to understand their position / thoughts.

Did you ask the landowner his/her reasoning for it?

Was it in your stand? Do you hunt with your guest? Little more info might help.

Who's complaining? The lease manager or the landowner?

2 people hunting a trophy buck is more likely to kill the trophy buck than one. other paying members could get upset if they are paying and hunting a trophy and other members are running 2-3 hunters at the same time hunting the same buck and only one member is paying..

i don't like leases where members can bring guest to do anything except camp and have fun. if you are killing you should be paying. it's only fair

Lets just say that it can cause trouble....

I know it is off lease members "Allotment", but if that guest doesn't shoot that trophy another "PAYING" member may have the chance at him. Guest has no skin in the game.... Paying members work all year, guest shows up and shoots trophy.. Just doesn't go over well a lot of times...

Guest having to sit in stand with paid member clears that up

My thoughts would be "the authority or final say" puts all the responsibility of what is classified as a Trophy on the actual lease spot holder? So, you have 1 Trophy WT & 1 Axis for YOU only to take. I'm curious of the definition of what's considered a Trophy? My guess would be it's a management thing to prevent taking young animals, give them a chance to grow? You are fortunate to be able to bring family and guests, many won't even permit that I've seen in the past.

I can understand it if the guest isn't hunting with the member because maybe nobody is in that stand and a paying memeber gets a chance at the animal later but if they are with a paying member (which they should always be IMO) that animal is shot anyway.

                    OK - little more info....

Yes - all have own stands - only place where we can hunt.

This is just a general comment / complaint from land owner / lease manager. Thinking of saying that only the paying member can shoot the trophy. Again - if my guests shoots my trophy WT off my stand - I am done for that year.

If there is a guy paying who lets his guest shoot HIS trophy, I dont see how there could be an issue. The guy paid and worked just like the other guys. You should be able to use your tag however you choose. Whether you take it or they take it.

That's like giving a guy $100 bucks and then trying to tell them how to spend it.

I'd like to help you figure out why someone I've never met complained about a situation I have almost no detail on, but I've never met the guy and have almost no detail on the situation.
Did you ask him during the course of the alleged complaining or did the complaining give any clue as to the problem?

and guest / family member is only hunting my stand - with me...

We will have to conform to whatever rules that are required by the land owner - just trying to understand the thinking...

This is the only reason I can think of. If as you describe are the rules then it should be yours to give away. Sounds like they need to change the rules to state only paying members are allowed trophies.

How big was the buck? (Seems like that might make a difference.)
