Can't find the links my guy sent me, but I just went through this. Be VERY careful with the cameras that link to phone or computer as they can all be hacked giving some creep full camera views inside your home.

One thing to note is the company I went through sells all that stuff and I was ready to buy. The owner is a friend of a friend. His advice cost him money.

I went with a more traditional system with the only camera being outside monitoring my front door.

Lets suggest some that are free, not adt or nest as they usually have hooks to keep you paying.

I would look into a network one that you can set up yourself. Look at free versions of team viewer or phonemypc etc. You can buy the app for like 10 bux on android and it allows you to jump into your pc at home. Just purchase a desktop that you designate your home network/server and you can leave it running 24/7 and jump into the home screen like you were sitting in front of it. I have had great success with this running medical programs for PACS and other systems.

i did but it uses a lot of bandwidth, you better have lighting fast internet for it to keep up, if your running anything else i.e computers, tablets and wireless cable boxes it will be worthless. wired is the way to go

A monitored system won't necessarily mean the police will catch the burglars, it almost never happens. 90% of the alarms are false. Self monitored is the way to go in my opinion and save yourself the $40 a month

look into a switch and cameras that carries POE power over ethernet(50-100$)... this gives you the best of both worlds... you can have speeds that are wired and it does not require a power outlet to power the camera that you install way up high or wherever. Cat 6 cable is cheap now and can be had for roughly 10 cents a foot on websites like monoprice.com

8 camera POE system and love it. remote playback lags about 3-8 seconds depending on how many cameras i have up for remote viewing. (remote meaning not at the house, via my phone app or work computer. )

                        1080P system with HD1080P cameras.

I looked at your route before going this route and came to the same as above (speed and Wi-Fi capability) running the POE out to the eves was somewhat frustrating but this 52 year old fat guy still managed using a wire puller from the outside )

I put up a couple Arlo cameras. Wireless, internet/phone app viewing, etc... Simple and easy.

Sams has some pretty good setups for live cameras.

I would suggest hard wire for many reasons. Number one being security. I would bet that if you have your cameras running wireless, I could find an app and a way to view them fairly easy. #2, reliability. I hate relying on wireless for anything other than getting on the internet with my phone/tablets. #3 quality. hard wire will always outperform wireless when both are set up correctly. You can set up a DNS server and view cameras on an all in one system from somewhere like sams.
