I once read a story of two kids running for 8th grade class president. One was a brilliant little boy who worked throughout the year and examined the issues before his age group. Met with school officials and learned about the options in literature and classes offered.
The day of the vote. The boy gave a speech on how he could work with the school to further education options and help prepare for highschool if he was elected.
The little girl just stood up and said if she was elected, there would be free icecream in the hallway every day. She won by a landslide.
