7-30 waters is an awesome round for a hunting handgun. I have this same gun with packmyer grip and forestock. It is a dream to shoot. Only problem is ammo. Federal is the only company that sell off the shelf ammo. Everything else is custom or hand load.
I paid $550 for mine 5 years ago. It had a TC 2x7 scope on it when I bought it.
Is it the newer stainless frame and barrel or the older Armalite or something like that... The old contenders used to have a "diamond coating" that looked a lot like stainless with a satin finish. That is what this one looks like. If it is the frame can only be used with Armalite barrels. If it is stainless, then the frame can be used with blued barrels too. The Armalite barrels and frames are no longer made (and haven't been for probably 20 years), but they have held their value. I have this gun is blued with a super 16 barrel in 7-30 Waters. Sierra makes a specific bullet for it too that is a very good shooter out of these Contender barrels. You can fireform cases from a 30-30 case if you reload. Mine is a tack driver. I have shot sub-moa groups with mine a 200 yards. Longest shot on a deer was a head shot on a dow at 236 yards. She was DRT! That's my favorite caliber for the contenders.
word of caution as I was a TC freek back in the day ... 5 frames and 12+ barrels
what is the serial number ? if it begins with A it is an Armor Alloy frame.
AA frames will only accept AA barrels . the armor alloy plating is thicker than standard finishes and requires the finish to be removed on lug , inside frame, and hinge pin .
I've been out of TC's for over 10 yrs but I'm pretty sure that's what I remember. I stayed clear of AA frames b/c all my barrels were stainless or chromoly.
still a very excellent round and pistol. Nothing wrong with it at all , Just make certain if the frame and barrel are AA or stainless. You will need to know this if wanting to purchase other barrels in future.
Mike Bellm has correct sized hinge pins and can remove finish from inside of frame
