Looks like an American Elm, but the leaf looks like Cedar Elm. Dutch Elm disease is somewhat like oak wilt. Cedar Elms are usually very hardy trees while American Elm can be disease ridden. Sorry for the loss, both varieties are nice trees.

Elm tree. Drought could have weakened them especially with the cedars sucking up the water then they died of disease.

I had a few like yours, all gnarly looking!
Trees were so darn ugly I that I cut them down a few years ago.

Cedar Elm. The other trees that are dying, is there bark falling off the tree? Red-headed Ash borers will infect weakened cedar elms. When the larvae hatches, it eats the sap under the bark, killing the tree in the process.

The first tree you posted does not have the growth characteristics of a cedar elm, but trees grown in the wild can do crazy things when competing for sunlight.

Cedar Elm. I lost quite a few during the last few years of drought. Also, looks like Cedar trees around in some of the pics. Cedar are the worse about taking ground water. Combine Cedar and the drought, and you will have some tree die off . I like Cedar elm trees.
