    Dealership lost my keys

How would you handle this? Took my 2012 F250 with $75k on the odometer in after noticing my rear diff was leaking at the pinion seal and a check engine light that came on. I dropped it off first thing this morning and I get a call mid afternoon to be informed that the damage is $1700! The breakdown is as follows... $600 for pinion seal replacement, almost $400 for two batteries, and $700 for the nox sensor that is causing my check engine light to be illuminated. Since I've already spent a lot of money in the last 45 days on repairs for this truck I call a local shop who is well known and respected in town and ask them what a pinion seal would run me to which they answer with $200 plus tax. I then look the nox sensor up online and can have it for as little as $39 and labor of less than $100. So after I wrap it up at the office I get a ride to the dealership to pick it up. I show up and tell them I'm there to pick it up I'm told it will be a few minutes, no problem. I wait and wait and about 45 minutes in I'm getting bothered the tech comes by and informs me that they have lost my keys. Now I'm ticked but keeping my cool. They searched for another 30 minutes before asking me if I had someone who could pick me up to which I answered "no". They scrambled for another 10 minutes before they found me a vehicle that i could take but not before having to give them my blood type and a hair sample. Once I'm given the keys I head back to where my truck is and get my pistol out and a couple other things I needed. So, the plan is they are going to cut me new keys in the morning. My truck is unlocked and outside of the shop and there have been numerous thefts at this dealership that I'm aware of. I keep my cool but I'm pretty upset over this whole situation. I guess there isn't much I can do but vent but if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate them.

I would have required they park it in the garage & stopped by after hours to make sure they did.

On the other hand if your truck gets stolen, I'd say you have a pretty good argument for a new truck at no cost!

And don't leave your pistol in the truck when it's getting serviced!

Not much you can do. They made a mistake. It happens. They are going to take care of the problem.

Sounds like an inside job. Found your pistol and setup the overnight stay. You should have another set of keys at home. Go get the truck tonight.

Bad idea.... I'd raise some h@!! With a service manager and get some sort of compensation. That's unacceptable service from a Ford Dealership. Good luck

Yes you did Mary. Something I never do but it was that kind of Monday.

Sounds like free repairs to compensate you for your time and frustration.

Why did they not cut the new key before close of business?

It sucks and is a pain but people make mistakes....they gave you a truck and are making you new keys. They're doing what they can to resolve the issue.

Oh and to echo the rest, you really left iron in the truck...

Lost set of keys happens more often then you think. It just happened to fall on you this time. Never leave anything of value in your vehicle when left in someone else's hands. Too many hands on ur vehicle when in service.
If your Trk gets stolen while there or damaged its up to the dealer to make it right.
Put some miles on that loaner and save your Trk a few. Good luck!!

Haha here we go... It will turn in to me getting hammered for leaving my pistol in my truck.

Crock of poo and I bet a tactic to get you to leave it so they could steal the gun or some other BS
