    Started building our house

We started building our house a few months ago in October. Wanted to build a barndo but that didn't work out, so its gonna be a Tilson Home.

Congrats. And good luck with the build. My in-laws have built 2 Tilson homes. Had such a good experience the first time they did not even shop around on the next one.

As usual, my wife absolutely knew we wouldn't have enough room it the new 2500 sq/ft house. Thats not counting the 20'x16' back porch and 31'x24' garage. After all, we lived 12 years in a 1700 sq/ft house before living a year in a 39ft toy-hauler and lately in a 900 sq/ft apartment. Lord knows we have way too much stuff.

Power pole was dropped off in the ditch. Wondered why and realized Centerpoint uses them as a rain gauge. Got the concrete guys working hard to be ready to pour.

We tried to pour concrete but the dirt was just too wet, the pumper truck started to spin tires and that was that. We had to spend some unexpected money on a short crushed concrete drive for the 50,000lb pumper truck and 75,000lb cement trucks. We put down some 12' wide geo-textile roll fabric in hopes it'll help with stabilization and reduce low spots. 12'x400' for $300.

The gateposts are made from demo'd stainless steel piping from work that was spec'd out all wrong... lucky for us nobody was hurt when it blew out. I made the bulkheads at the culverts out of railroad ties. Hope they last a good long while. they are nailed together with 3/8" rebar every 3 feet.

Who'd have thought that Centerpoint would show up just after as the guy spreading the crushed concrete started? I had to give him a little extra to sit idle while the power pole was being set. The lead lineman was an *** and wouldn't sit for 15 minutes while the drive was being finished. I used to be a lineman so I do understand what running a line crew is like.

Sounds fun, I have three foundations to make up and four to pour before I go to Mexico on Thursday.

I'm starting this thread a little late. I wasn't able to post pics for whatever reason. I can now though. We are 2 1/2 months into the build now.

It's gonna be as new of a house to us as it will be for y'all. We picked out the plans from a modified floor plan without seeing more than just a few pics on the Tilson website. We made a bunch of changes to it to allow my wife's older parents to live with us. Increased the guest bedroom size and added them another bathroom and closet. Plus we enlarged and closed off the study to make a second TV room.

Soon after the crushed concrete was put down, the concrete trucks were able to get in and start pouring the foundation.

They somehow were able to overcome Newtons Laws of gravity.
