    Oryx and Gemsbok?

Is it just me or does google not know the difference?

I did a search for Oryx because I'm not familiar with them and all the pics are Gemsbok.

Yes. I saw Oryx on the Diamond C thread so I did a search.

      Thanks

Oryx is an animal genus, Gemsbok and Scimitar Horned Oryx are both within that.

          Gemsbok- Oryx gazella

          Scimitar Horned Oryx- Oryx dammah

Ok I'm still confused. Is it the same animal or not?

oryx and gemsok are the same thing, just different names. There are sub species such as the scimitar oryx.

Got it. Thanks for the help. I'm planning a hunt in Africa in a couple years with another TBH'er and still making up my hit list

I refer to those as Gemsbok and an Oryx.

But technically they are both species of Oryx.

A gemsbok is one type of oryx. Lots of people just throw the term oryx when talking about gemsbok. There are many types of oryx out there. Scimitar, Arabian, fringe eared, beisa, gemsbok.
