    Straight Razor Suggestion

I have decided that I want to start using a straight razor to shave with because I feel like it will be more precise. I just need some help getting started. I know that cheap knives are cheap because of the materials used, so I don't want to cheap out on a razor, but I cant afford to drop several hundred on a beginners razor. Any suggestions on brands, sizes, shapes, and where to get it at a good price?

I also need suggestions on where to get the accessories that go with it. I know I need a strop, but does it matter what kind? What about a scuttle and brush? Soap, cream, etc.? What brands do you like and why.

See if you can find one made of Lutz Soligen Steel.

I use disposable blades on a handle. Might be a good way to see if you have the patience for it. I've got like $15 in my travel blade. I got them from Sally's Beauty Supply, always get strange looks when I walk into that place lol

Dirty blade cause I just got done shaving

I started yesterday and only cut myself 5 times. Any tips? I use the same blade from Sally ' s but it is pretty flimsy.

This is the one I use. It is very economical. For the razor and a pack of blades you will have a hard time running out of, you'll be under $50 on Amazon.

The flatter you run the blade across your face the better off you are.

Find a barber shop nearby. I'm sure they'll give some first hand pointers.

Ive been practicing with a shavette, so I know I can do it. It does OK, but I want to graduate to the real deal and see if that does better.

Shavettes are far less forgiving than straights. As long as you care for y he straight properly, it should be better. I nearly decapitated myself with a shavette, so I stay far far away from them lol.

I use a Heribert Wacker Solingen, but that's a bit out of your desired price range :-) If you want a good razor at a good price give Larry at whippeddog.com a shout he is good people and can hook you up with everything you need at a very reasonable price. His sight unseen razors are a phenomenal deal for a beginner.

I switched to a DE safety razor a few months ago and love it. I may make the switch to a straight razor in the future.

Here is one thing you will surely need!!!

Just wet the tip, place it on the cut for about 10 seconds and whala, no more bleeding!!! Stoos the bleeding almost instantly. It does sting like heck though!

I just got my first one. I did a bunch of research before buying. If you buy one with german steel, make sure it comes from Solingen Germany. I personally went with a Dovo Forrestal. Im quiet proud of myself also, I haven't cut myself yet. However I only use it on my neck.
