    Octane Hostage Arrow Rest

    Who has/is using one?

    Pros/Cons?

How does it compare to the Whisker Biscuit?

I use one and switched from a WB. I love it. Seems quiter and allows my quickspins to get away unmolested.

I had one on my bow but wanted to try a dropaway. I miss the full containment of the hostage hunting out of a tree or stalking. I never had any problems with it was real quiet and as long as you have your fletchings getting clearance there should be no contact like a whisker biscuit.

I have one for sale if anyones interested PM me

I had a Whisker Busquit and put on a Hostage Pro ($90) a couple of months ago.

        Here's my $0.02:

        1. The brushes are a pain in the rear to adjust. They are held in with screws that tighten with the smallest of the small Allen wrenches. You have to be careful not to strip them out when tightening down.

        2. I was shooting a lot getting prepared for an Elk Hunt, but I pretty much wore out the bottom brush from shooting. The problem with that is, as the bottom brush wears down, your sight is essentially getting slightly lower, which means you have to keep making minor sighting adjustments. The quick fix (which I did) was replace the bottom brush (the only one with constant contact) with one of the brushes on the side.

I have read that the reason for the wear of the brushes is that the bow is not tuned properly. I had problems tuning my bow but I think its good now. I am shooting 4 inch groups at 60 yards so I don't think it's the tuning.

        3. I think they are quieter than the WB but that never bothered me much about the WB.

        4. I like the arrow containment but the way mine is adjusted, the arrow will fall down into the frame of the rest if you bump it. I covered mine inside and out with moleskin.

        5. Make sure there is no contact with your fletchings. I shoot 2" Blazers and they are OK.

It just so happens that I stumbled across a review of this rest last night:

I have both, on different bows. Keeping the Hostage, trying to sell the WB

I've tuned a lot of bows with both, and I prefer the WB. Seems more friendly with different nock travels due to the bottom being more flexible.
New brushes for the Octane Hostage Pro are coming- Pig hair?
Will report as soon as they arrive.

Shockvalue, if you paid 90 bucks for it you got SCREWED. Cabelas had em for 59. I bet you can em cheaper at either keystone Country Store or Lancasters

$70 at Cabelas. I know I paid more than that at All Star in Lewisville but maybe it was $80 instead of $90.

One more thing to add about this rest. If you shoot with wraps on you arrows, watch for the bottom brush to peel up the wrap on the front edge. That was happening to me and I ended up taking the wraps off. Now I shoot ugly arrows.

When Is The Pig Hair Scheduled To Arrive. That Lower Brush Wear Is Driving Me To Change Rests Very Soon If There Isn't A Fix.

I was thinking about getting one the other night and after reading all the reviews I could fine. I ended up going with the RipCord drop-away rest instead because everybody was saying stuff about wearing out the hairs. I love the consept but will wait to see what I hear about the new hog hair. Until then I love my RipCord.

I had one and switched to Vital gear Kaz fall away. I still get arrow containment with fall away accuracy. IMO the Vital Gear Kaz is by far the best rest well worth the $. The Hostage was ok, but didn't fit my bow that well.

I've heard good things about the hostage rest. The only downfall is that the brushes on the bottom tend to wear. I plan on putting a containment rest on my next bow but I'm thinking about the NAP Containment 360 because they have a hard trough that is teflon coated on the bottom instead of bristles so there are no wear issues.
