im by no means knowledgeable in wiring or electricity. but im about to order some LED lights for my boat to start getting ready to bowfish out of. I will have 10 lights that will be 27 watt 12-24 volt. I will be using a 24 volt system to power the lights. what should be the best way to wire these lights with and what size wire should be used? I found a diagram on another forum, but not sure if this was a great way to wire the lights or not. any input would be appreciated.

Regardless if you wire them in parallel or in series, you still need a fuse between the battery (as close to the battery as possible) and lights. If there is any kind of short, the fuse will pop and you won't have melting wires or a fire.
Now, as for the wiring. In that application, you need to hook all the +'s together and all the -'s together, and then to the battery. If it's a 24v system, with 12v batteries, you will see that the + on one battery is hooked to one - on another battery. The remaining + and - posts will yield 24v. These batteries are in series.
Moving on. You'll likely need a relay as you will have a hard time finding a 12v switch to handle that load.
The way I would do it is switch to relay. Relay to fuse box (one fuse per light). Fuse box to light. This way if there's a short in one light, only one fuse will pop and the rest of your lights will still work.
12v stuff is pretty easy, but if you're asking questions like you did, I'd get someone that knows 12v to help you out.
