    Learning to play the guitar

I know there are several on here that can play but how many are learning to play. I got a Gretsch Electromatic for Christmas and a Fender acoustic for my birthday. It is a very good thing I am extremely patient. I understand I am not gonna be able to just start playing overnight it's gonna take awhile. I have learned 7 cords and 4 strumming patterns so far. My cord changes are getting way better but C to G and G to C is wearing me out. I am like 200% better at it than I was but still takes me a couple beats to make the change.

Keep going. You have hills and valleys. Then all of the sudden it clicks. You make big progress, then it starts over. But it's worth it. Take lessons. I don't care what people say a good teacher makes a huge difference. Enjoy the time and effort you put it. Play what you love and love what you play. Good luck!!

I'm taking lessons. I looked in to the Keith Urban deal but I decided if I was gonna spend money I needed real lessons. Lessons are well worth the time and money.

If g->c and c->g are holding you back, just play the 4 finger versions (big-g)and then you only need to move the top 2 fingers down 1 string for c and you are anchored with your 3rd finger for d (the typical 3rd chord).

I play the g chord with 3 fingers...but I leave my pointer finger out of it....if that makes sense...

Let's me start moving my pointer finger early as a guide and leaves me open for some other chords (gmaj7 ) in the future

Well as a retried musician I think I can chime in on this.. YouTube has tons of free videos from beginners to more complicated licks. I wish that when I first started YouTube had been available. The best way to learn timing is to play with someone that has some patience and is a good player. Take your time don't rush it don't press on until you've learned what you're working on at the present time. Cords and scales should be your number one object first.
