Quite a shot! Shooting them from a distance is probably a good idea. A friend of mine was quail hunting in south Texas with his aged uncle. The landowner warned them that there was an escaped male ostrich around and he could be aggressive. They didn't think much about it until it charged out of the brush and attacked his uncle. My buddy shot it twice in the neck with bird shot from point blank range but it just ran off. The old guy suffered several badly broken ribs and a severe gash in his thigh. Must have been a wild scene...
