    Re-waterproofing boots?

So it appears the waterproof membrane in my 5+ yr old boots has given out. And it appears it's going to stay a wet and cold rest of quail season.

She I was a kid we used Sno-Seal and baked our boots or minks oil. But I know fatty acids break down the leather.

Is there a new/better treatment for boots? After an hour of chasing quail in snow and slush my wool socks (thank goodness for wool!) were soaked.

    Whatcha recommend?

Silicon spray will stop a lot of the moisture.

For leather, i like Danner Waterproofing gel. I apply it a couple of times to new boots and once every season after that.

SnoSeal is still the best I've ever used.

It is beeswax based, it does not break down leather like other treatments.

Granger's boot wax. Stuff works great. Used nikewax prior, but tried this and won't go back.

                Paste wax or G wax?

I still use SnoSeal after 45 years of using it.

I used to use sno-seal a bunch but it would make my feet sweat bc it kills the breathability of my boots. I use the Kiwi camp dry spray now. Several coats with proper dry time in between really has made a huge difference. Re-treat yearly, no issues.

This is what Schnee's recommended when I bought my boots. They actually gave me 2 tubes of it. I have used it on my other boots too.

I put my boots in the oven at 175* for a few minutes to get them heated up and open the pores. I coat them with the Nikwax and put them back in to bake again for a couple of minutes. I do this 2 times then let them sit for a day or two before I wear them.

                          Works great for me.

I used to use Sno Seal but haven't since I got Nikwax
