300 wm through the bedroom wall

Bought a used Remington sendero in 300 win mag from a guy on here. Got it home the other night and was checking it out. I put a round in the chamber and closed the bolt to make sure everything locked up right and felt good. As soon as i closed the bolt BOOM gun went off in my hands. I was standing in my bedroom with my wife and dogs about 6 ft away. Our kids were staying at grandparents for the night thank God. Wife and I both stared at each other in disbelieve, after she stopped screaming. The round went through the corner edge of a new still in box tv, through the bedroom/livingroom wall, and buried in the livingroom floor under the christmas tree. The concussion in the closed room set off smoke alarms, knocked pictures off the wall, and left our ears ringing till the next day. I was so **** scared i was shaking thinking about all the what-if's and different ways that could have gone. God was certainly watching over our family that night as no one was injured. I take no chances with firearm safety, and you can't help but hear stories like this and think this could never happen to you, but here is a good reminder they **** sure can when you least expect it. I would have never dreamed of a bolt action going off just by closing the bolt but it happened, and I can't imagine the outcome if the gun hadn't been pointed in a safe direction. Turns out the rifle was part of remington's trigger recall a few years back and was never fixed.

Scary stuff. I know how you feel. I've accidentally shot my bed with 22-250 when I was younger. Not a good feeling...

If you choose to change the trigger yourself the timney trigger will allow you to keep the gun on safe while loading a round in the chamber. That's a scary deal glad you & your wife are unharmed.

was it on safe when it went off?
I've had two of them go off over the years when the safety is flipped off

I wonder if the guy who sold it to you knew it was defective?

whomever you bought that gun from knew that would happen.

Had this exact same thing happen, luckily it was at a range being fired at a target, but was repeated several times, as we did not really believe that the first guy that did it didn't just pull the trigger.

I called the guy and he said he had no idea. I sure hope that is the truth. I cant imagine selling a gun to a person knowing it could accidently kill someone, especially when there is an easy free fix.

Yep. I had one do that, and witnessed a buddy's rifle do the same.

...years before Remington ever fessed up to any trigger/safety problems on any models.

I had a remi 700 in 30.06 do the same thing. I was at my uncles deer lease in the camper. Gun went off as soon as I took the safety off to eject the round. Blew a hole in the window that my cousin was walking by. You don't know the feeling I had when I saw my cousin squirming around on the ground.
Luckily the blast scared him to the ground and the round missed him.

That was more than 20 years ago and my uncle still doesn't believe me that my finger wasn't on the trigger. Maybe I should show him this thread and all the other reports and the recalls that Remington has had do to this problem.

I haven't been hunting with my uncle since that happened.

That sucks. Ive never had firsthand knowledge of one going off like that without the trigger having been messed with but it could happen.

Its a heck of a wakeup. Reminds you to always keep muzzle pointed in a safe direction at ALL times.

Well, you can tell him about one more. My wife was about to shoot a buck once with her Model 7, and as she pushed the safety off, BAM ! We were in the stand together along with our young ( at the time ) son. Scared the hell out of all. I scolded her about pulling the trigger prematurely and she swore she never touched it. It was years later when we all learned about the Remington trigger fiasco. I immediately ordered a trigger and replaced the factory one.
