What is wrong with my air compressor

After close to 50 lbs the motor bogs down real bad. What's wrong,

Might be the electrical stater. Mine was. Had it replaced & worked fine

There should be a check valve between the tank and the compressor, or similar set-up, the tank pressure is flowing back and holding pressure on the compressor, your motor is trying to start under a load. Generally there is some sort of unloader in the system that lets the pressure off of the discharge that allows motor and compressor to start.

Well I could be mistaken, I thought I read trying to restart at around 50 psi, are you sure the gauge is correct, maybe try a different outlet to see if it still happens, really need to find if its mechanical or electrical, could be a number of things.

If it is a portable compressor and you are using a small Guage extension cord, that could be it. They draw so much power a lot of times those 12&14ga cords can't handle the load once they build up a little pressure..
