Academy Sports. IT IS, WHAT IT IS...:(

Used up a couple of gift cards I got for Christmas from the Grand Kids. Couldn't really find much in their store worth buying that didn't say Made In China except 22lr and Frog Foundation T Shirts. Grand Kids are not dumb, they know where their supply of 22lr is bought. But what happened at the gun counter could have easily ended in tragedy and shows, what I think, Academy's true colors, or just plain stupidity at best.

Married couple with kids in toe were looking for a better fitting holster for mom's concealed carry pistol she carries in her purse. With three different choices they go to the counter and asks them which one is the best choice.

Clerksays, "I don't know, do you have your gun with you, let me see it."

Clerk can't hardly get the pistol out of the customers holster and points a loaded gun down the far side of the gun counter trying to pull it out of the holster, to his credit it was really stuck but this also made it a very dangerous situation. Removes the magazine then turns the gun and points it down the gun counter towards me to eject the round out of the chamber. It looked like the first time he had ever unloaded a pistol. The magazine was unloaded and the pistol was put back behind the counter out of its owners reach. When the couple left the store the store manager carried the pistol out to the car to return it. I ask why they do this when the customer has a CHL and was rudely told the pistol was no longer concealed and sore policy overrides state law. FM2920 and I45.

Man that place is a joke. They never shoulda shut the Rayford location down. But that sounds like a bad situation. Wow

Not worth getting worked up over in my opinion.....

Obviously the gun owner was not capable of getting the firearm out of her own holster, the sales clerk was not able to do it without putting people in harms way.

Sounds like it was best that gun was taken to the front door, unloaded!

I like to hear what the people say that are behind the gun counter just for laughs, there's 3 young guys that work it sometimes that are a joke

The one one Beltway 8 in Pasadena have a few good guys that work behind the counter. A young man named Dylan is usually always there he's very knowledgeable, so not every Academy is bad.

I love Academy, always have, likely always will. Great prices and good customer service.

The one I go to off Bunker Hill is awesome.

I've never had a problem with put Academy. Usually cheaper for the stuff I want than Cabellas or bass pro.

Just remember what the play scale is there. How much info and training can you get at minimum wage.

Did you talk to a manager about what you saw? Or email corporate?

They're knuckleheads behind the gun counter. On another note, my Academy had a bunch of clothing on sale for 50% off today. I ended up spending Over $300 on stuff that would have normally run me close to $700.

If you think Academy gun counter is bad, you should see Bass Pro.

When I buy from academy, I know what I want and look for it on my on. I buy guns from other places. Those gun counter guys crack me up. You would think that some would be driven enough to at least learn something about sporting goods in general. I guess retail jobs are different from factories.....
