    My new buddy.

Back in October I had to put my 15 year old lab Maverick down. My wife and I had recently been talking about when and what kind of pup to get. I had planned on either another lab, a viz, or possibly a blue tick. My lab was the best dog, but he wasn't a hunting dog. This time around, I wanted one to try and train for blood trailing.

Early last week I was in East Texas hunting with my daughter. While I was in the stand, I start getting texts from my wife of my son with different dogs from the animal shelter. I reply back to each pic with "cute but NO". When I got back home on Monday, my son convinced me to go meet one that he had really bonded with. I explained that he shouldn't get his hopes up since a shelter dog wasn't what I was looking for.

Needless to say, after seeing how these two interacted, I just couldn't say no. We brought Jethro home today. He's a 1 1/2 year old "lab" mix. Don't know how he will be as a trailer, but he's gentle as can be and its great having a dog in the house again.

I had a shelter dog that found a lot of deer for people. His name was Deathrow.

Yeah, he got fixed today and was still feeling out of it when I took this picture. He's up and around now roaming the house and checking things out.

At the start of deer season a found a dog that had been dumped near our deer lease. He was starving to death, and covered in fleas and ticks. He weighed only 10 lbs. 6 weeks later he's up to 29 lbs and has a clean bill of health! Rescue dogs are the best dogs.
