I've seen this badger go into his hole and know the exact area he is in. What is the best way to get him out of his den? I will be down in south Texas. Let's hear it.
Flood him out with water. You can try to call him out but if he's scared he might not come out. You could dig him out of you're feeling ambitious. But if you fill the hole up with water he'll come out. One of my buddies killed a nuisance badger in his yard that way. Another buddy of mine did the same with a coyote. Busted it in the head with a shovel when it ran out.
Find a den that's plugged, more than likely that's the one he's in. Set a #4 on a drag about 2' from his hole. When he comes out in reverse the dirt will be the first thing out and will cover your trap if it's too close. The drag will let him move around and not try and re den to bad. If you or a buddy had a Jagd terrier, send him down the hole, but you'll prolly have to dig them out, once the Jagd kills the badger he'll guard his kill and not leave it. Don't ask me how I know.....
I've never tried a smoke bomb but I think if you could get it far enough in the hole for smoke to get to him it might. Smoke travels up though....so maybe put something over the hole to keep it in the hole so the badger can't get any air? I'm not sure. Another thing that you could do if you have a long piece of barbwire handy you could loop it on one end and corkscrew it down the hole. If the badger gets tangled up in there you can pull him right out. I've heard of people doing this on rabbits and it'll work on rattlesnakes too.
