    LED light wattage question

im looking to buy 10, 27 watt LED lights for my boat to start getting a bowfishing rig set up. my father in law gave me a small 1200 watt generator today, will this be sufficient to power these lights or should I go another route? I have read on other forums people using 12 volt deep cycle batteries to power their LED lights.

If the lights are 12v, then you will need a battery. If they are 120v, then they are only 270W all together, and a 1200W genny would work great.

If 12v, then you can run on batteries only, but you need to know the amperage draw of the lights to figure out how long the battery will last. Most guys who go silent, have at least two battery sets for their lights.

Air motor or trolling? Buddy of mine has his lights run off a gm alternator that's attached to his fan motor

trolling. all ive ever used is just a spot light to scan the water for fish. not my ideal way to bowfish but it worked for awhile. lol

A buddy of mine runs 3 of the led light bars off a battery and will last for several hours.

Those lights are either 12v or 24v (you can wire them up either way). They are such low amperage, that going 12v would be no problem. 10 lights would draw 22.5 amps. A 130amp/hr battery, using it down to 20%, would last about 4hrs. If you had 2 batteries, you could fish all night with no generator noise!!!

If you go this route, get the best batteries you can!

Use two good batteries and leave generator at home. That is what we do. I have a similar set up on my boat.

Yes your total draw is only 270 watts.
