    Live from Stonewall County

Well, the weatherman called for a blizzard and it looks like we're starting to see his prediction come true. The ground is white and the sky is grey for the start of my evening hunt.

My wife made her very first rifle kill yesterday as she made a clean shoulder shot on an old boar hog. She was excited and I was proud of her calm temperament and smooth trigger squeeze!

I'm out solo this evening looking for a mature doe. The "stand" I'm hunting from is actually a 25x30 building housing the ranch water well and holding tank.

I'm hunting over a corn feeder not more than 90 yards from my muzzle. The snow riding the wind in from the north-northwest. I'm reading an ambient of 30*. PERFECT deer hunting weather, IMHO.

    I will keep y'all posted...

Looks good, love hunting from existing structures on the ranch.

I'll be headed out tomorrow in search of a doe or management buck that needs to die.

Existing structures are fun. I've hunted from an old windmill before and had good luck. It might be a little brutal to try that today! This well house is equipped with 5" of spray foam and is very warm. I even have a 110 outlet at my viewing platform. I'm a knucklehead for not bringing along a small space heater. Haha

Well, nothing to report. The weather turned ugly about an hour before sundown and just kept getting worse and worse. The feeder went off around 5:15 and I don't think it put much out. I'm guessing that the feed tube was frozen and didn't allow corn to flow properly.

The feeder is typically a dinner bell, but I didn't have many takers. Four doe literally charged in from beyond the feeder and only stayed for about ten minutes. None were mature enough to take, so I just watched them mill around until they cleaned up what little corn did fall.

At least I wasn't in a tripod. I don't think even Sitka gear would suffice for a tripod in these conditions.

I'll continue this thread tomorrow. Hopefully my wife and I can both harvest a good doe before we have to return to normal life back east...
