Poor Quality DEF Warning

I have a 2011 Chevrolet 3500 Duramax with 36,600 miles. While headed to the store this morning I got an alert saying, "poor quality exhaust fluid, check owners manual now".

I just filled the DEF tank up with Blue DEF from Walmart like I have always done.

Anyone else ever experienced this issue?

Yes mine done that not long ago had to take to Chevy house it was the sensor they fixed at no charge

I had same issue in my 2011 duramax. To remedy the def fluid sensor was replaced, software updated, and system reset.

If you don't get it to the shop it will not let you go over 25 mph after about 70 mi.

It said, " if the system doesn't fix it's self take it to a dealership".

I have a dozen 2011's in my fleet and all have had this happen at least once. Replace sensors sometimes, others clean tank and refill while on some we had to replace the whole system. Chevy tells you it is because def fluid is not stored properly....

Programer and delete kit will fix you up so you don't have that problem again.

Buy a 2001 Ford 7.3 and you'll never have that problem again.

Always check the expiration date on the DEF.

I am not 100% certain but from what I was told is that DEF fluid is mostly distilled water and not much else. I'm not saying it doesn't have anything else in it but it's a small percentage of whatever it is. Just another useless consumable product. Anyway, bucees sells it way cheaper than BlueDef at Walmart. Much cheaper, under $6 for 2.5 gallon container.

That sounds about like a dealership.

I believe it is uric acid.
