    Catahoula for tracking?

I train duck hunting dogs for a living and recently had a client bring me a dog that is at least part Catahoula. The dog is great and it reminded me of Jim Titchnel's old dog named Belle at the old Bowhunters Paradise. She was a tracking machine. I am thinking about training one for myself to track as well as duck hunt. I can handle the duck part but was wanting to know if anyone on the GS has them for tracking.

Actually lots of people here have them as tracking dogs but I don't know how good they really are as I have never owned one or seen one at work. But based on threads on here they are pretty good..

    Search blood tracking.

Do they track nose down and stay on the trail or do the go head high and hunt for the animal? I had a Dratthaar who did great but often left the trail and started hunting the deer.

They are great tracking dogs. Had one for a while. Found several deer for me. Nose down and stayed on trail. I started her with liver drags as a pup then worked up to blood. Better get some blood to freeze!

You can't track with a Catahoula jk. Check out the thread Tuco started. Lot's of good info. Everything I've done with mine she will start nose down and as she gets close to the end she heads out on a beeline for the prize. Fortunately/unfortunately, I haven't had a trail for the pup to run that I didn't know the end result before she did.
