    Mac computer help

Was on the laptop when it froze so I just turned it off. When I turn it on now all I get is a grey screen with the pictures of a file, with a question mark in the middle of the file, blinking in the middle of the screen. Turned it off and on several times and this is all I get. Anyone experienced this before? Any idea what to do?

The problem most likely is the computer’s logic board. They have had issues with this.

Computer is about 5 years old. Guess I'll bring it to the Apple store but wait a few days cuz I'm sure it's a mad house right now right after Christmas.

Could be the hard drive failed finally. 5 years is getting into that territory. You can try powering it off and holding command alt p r while it boots. It will chime and then you can release the keys. Sounds like it can't find a boot volume though.

make an appointment and you won't have to wait.

How much free space on the drive? Do you have a back up on time machine? Is it a macbook or macbook pro?
You might be able to tell if the drive is okay of you can start up in target mode and see you drive vie firewire on another computer.
