    trapping a possum

Will a possum hit a dog proof coon trap? I've got one or more hanging around my back yard. Seen him earlier today and have some of those traps but if they won't hit them I'll try something else.

Dog food for bait, garbage foods that sink, or fish carcasses/sardines.

I've caught a few off of canned tuna.

Old rotten fruit will work. That way you don't have to worry about catching anything else.

One of my dogs was barking and had one playing dead the other day. I went out and picked it up by the tail and took it outside the fence and let it go.

Yes, can catch them in dog proof cuffs. Nasty bait = nasty critters (opossum).

They run our fence rail every few nights. Knowing what direction they come from, I use a live trap with opening facing direction they come from. Dumb possum walks right in, no need for bait. Caught numerous over the years this way.

I've also caught them in dog proof coon traps using large marshmallows for bait with a little drizzle of fish oil.
