Oh yeah, I forgot about the wind. What's the prevailing wind direction?

I think if you are mobile (I like a small tripod) and willing to sacrifice some hunts for scouting you can get on deer.

Works up North. Once the deer get into the wheat they tend to go all over the place. The only thing that is constant is the trail in.

Lots of ideas with a place like that. I want in on the next "survival hunt" so we can put each others skills (or lack there of) to the test.

Hunting fields, it's pretty easy to read where the hot spots are. Mid day, walk the edges, read the wind, read the entry points and document where they enter and feed at night. If you can cover all wind variables the better. From there...you work back into the timber and read the routes made inbound to the fields. As you work in...start the scrape/rub reads and tie that to bedding areas. You will find scrapes along the field edges.....those are night time marking scrapes. The scrapes you find 100-300 yards back into the timber....those are your daytime scrapes.

Once you get the deer routes pegged....it's round two. Fill a backpack full of corn and go back in and chum prime buck areas. Do this over and over and then start reading the deer droppings. Milkdud sized droppings....you got a stand location to now think about.

That's how I would do it to dial in the big boy.
