My daughter just arrived to the house from Army boot camp. She is home for two weeks because of Christmas holidays. She will go back on the 4th to complete boot camp. She gave me a big hug and then said," can I take apart your AR"?? Sure you can...she had that thing apart in 10 seconds and looked at me and said, "dad you need to clean this thing"....my response was, " why do you think I let you take it apart...here is the cleaning supplies"....pretty smart on my part. I am so proud of her and the young lady she has become.

On another note, the army lets you go home for the holidays in boot camp??? No way that was happening in the Navy lol.
I'm not sure the exact reason, I just know her whole battery got to come home. Maybe her Drill Sergeant had leave or something. I know this created her being in the hole for earned leave time now. She won't come home after basic training, and will go directly to AIT in Georgia.

They do it because of block leave and like you said the drill sergeants go on leave also. And yes she's gonna be in the whole for awhile which is the worst part of going through basic at this time of year. I'm glad when I went through it was right after christmas

Tell her to enjoy her time home, I spent 3 of my 4 on deployment or out at sea doing training. And the most truthful I heard while I was in is "that you get out what you put in". I'm in the middle of getting my second degree from using my benefits, its worth it, not to mention you are serving your country, and always walk fast and look busy..
