    Lack of communication

The "A Crazy Hunting Story" thread reminded me of a hunting story or experience that occurred with a family member. I didn't want to hijack that thread.
A friend of the family invited a family member to go hunt on his relative's land. The relative owned a large amount of land that is known for holding decent deer. Family member gladly accepted the invitation and was asked to go scout where he'd like to hunt on opening weekend of rifle season. Found a nice spot to set up near a slough. Nobody said a thing about what he couldn't shoot as far as deer. The friend was going after a buck as was the friend's father.

Family member sees several does and a small number of bucks on the opening day. After several hours he decides on which buck he decides to shoot and makes a kill. It wasn't a trophy, but that wasn't what he was after anyways. Later on the friend arrives and upon seeing the buck he threw a tantrum. This guy was always spoiled rotten and had a history of being ugly at times and could usually get away with it since he is a giant. After he finished ranting he decides that my family member can never hunt there again. I think what it really boils down to is he was jealous and mad because he didn't get a buck first. This same guy got into a fight with a much older farmer who leased the land and was plowing during dove season.

As far as I'm concerned, if I TAKE someone on a hunt on property where I have access- they only shoot what IS FULLY UNDERSTOOD BEFOREHAND. To assume no one said don't shoot would be the last time they got invite from me as well. Maybe I misunderstood the story.

They had only talked about bucks. Everyone else was planning on taking bucks only. My family member should have asked if anything was off limits, but forgot to I guess. Nothing was said about does only. Nobody else hunting was planning on shooting does. Just lack of communication.

So the friend that gave the invite threw the temper tantrum? I think I'd turn down any invite to hunt someone else's place. Hunting seems so stressful these days. I don't understand how most people can even relax and enjoy it with all the rules, penalties, and punishments that are in place.
