    Super bug

Frightening, but it's been predicted for many years. I'll give you something else frightening.

In the early 1980s I was a sales rep for a company selling equipment to detect bacteria in blood and other bodily fluids. At that time, the estimate was around 50,000 people died per year from hospital acquired infections. Go in without an infection, get one while hospitalized, then die. The biggest problem is the bacteria that are in the hospitals can not be treated by common antibiotics- or in some cases by none.

Last year I was working with a company who had a new technique for detecting the same thing. Only by last year, the current estimate is 250,000 people die per year from hospital acquired infections.

30+ years, and the number has grown 5x.

Every species that overpopulates has some natural "superbug" to knock the population back in check. Looks like it may be happening again soon.
