I used to go around and repair cracked granite after several years of fabricating it and most cracks I encountered were were either installer error or cabinet installer error. That being said the 3CM will support itself better under bad conditions but both will last lifetimes if installed properly - sealing is more important on lighter colors but all stains can be gotten out with the right poultice. Marble will scratch and stain more easily than granite and is UV light sensitive. Granite is always cold to the touch and will break a glass or two until you get used to it and will scratch things that rub against it. If you get a bad seem you can have a pro grind it flat and it will be almost completely invisible. If you get one piece that is lighter than the other you can use boiled linseed oil to darken the light one. Best to make sure your undermount sink cutout has fiberglass reinforcement bars inlaid into the granite underneath. Hope this helps : ) ~

granite counter top question

We went with all 3 cm. It does not require laminating the edge and the lamination line that frequently shows. One other hint we learned. Don't go with a bullnose edge. Any liquid that rolls off the counter top will follow around the bullnose and roll down the face of the cabinet below. Where an edge treatment that is square on the bottom edge the liquid will drop from the counter top to the floor.
