Yeah, but wouldn't we see a lot more of this with all the free range Axis in Texas? And I think they have to be closely related. In this case, they're both North American deer (whitetail and mule deer), while Axis deer are from the Middle East. That's just a SWAG.

I appreciate your insightful comment, even if you called it a SWAG. Like I said, I was just asking a question; not trying to start an argument.

Does everyone understand that it's all about the doe cycling..... A buck would breed year around if given the opportunity. I don't know how in the world we got off topic talking about the possibility of an axis buck breeding a whitetail doe in the summer.

If we could get an answer on what the size of the fetus in the harvested doe, that would be helpful. Someone mentioned out of wack doe population...... I think that is a big possibility.

Does bred in September, October, November will have fetus's. That's what getting bred will do....just saying. Some mature does will get bred in September. I have had buddies fill their doe tags on the Moore Plantation "pine farm management area" that had twin fetus's.

Not really off topic, someone just threw it out there that it could have been the baby daddy.

LOL. Even if this was possible, which it isn't, the doe would still have to be in estrus, ie ovulating to become pregnant.

No he won't. He is not capable of breeding unless he has hardened antlers.

Correct but what makes them drop antlers?

It's pregnant because it was bred sometime early this fall.

The deer breed at my Lavaca county ranch from late Septmeber to early October and every doe we ever kill during general season is pregnant.

Manbearpig is real, but we hardly ever see him either. I'm super super serial.

And why not kill pregnant does? We kill does to control population/sex ratios. Killing a pregnant doe is very efficient in that more than one deer is killed at a time.
