When do schools start teaching about Pearl Harbor???

I asked my second grader, what they discussed about it today, he never heard of it. I don't expect them to do a full on discovery documentary, but at least recognize the day! This bothers me. So, I sat him down and gave him a quick run down of it. He had some questions, then he got emotional. I love my little man. God bless our service men and women, and God bless this great country! Rant over

When they start taking history class...for my kids that was close to middle school age.

However we discuss things like that at home WAY before then. MY wife is a teacher...probably the best 1st grade teacher in the state (no bias she is legit) and we know that the school should only bolster what mom and dad do at home. History is a big part of that, just wait until high school and see what passes for US History...it will make ya see red.

I doubt schools make it a priority to teach any history before bill Clinton admin.
I remember when i was at least 3-4 grade we talked about Pearl Harbor but i doubt my kids
( 2-3rd grades) eill ever hear about it in school

I'm sure that under our current philosophy, the Public School Systems will teach that it was our, (United States), fault that the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.

Lot of history falling by the wayside, it's not politically correct these days.

After the knowing all die off and they rewrite "what really happened"....

Second grade, may be a bit early, to understand the gravity of Pearl Harbor.
But,a good teacher, should acknowledge that this is a special day in American
              history.

Well, I'll be the first to admit that we don't discuss enough US history in my house. I just assumed that surely they would. Guess not. I'm certainly not blaming his teacher directly, I guess the school agenda is forever changing.

I asked my 4th grader if they talked about it today and he said no. They do a nice Verteran's Day program a his school every year though.

My 7th grader talked about it in science....she has a cool science teacher.

We certainly talked about it at home.

Not sure about Pearl Harbor specifically, but my wife's a teacher and I can tell you for sure that our history is very seriously diluted, and overlooked as an important subject for our children to learn. My wife is a 4th grade teacher so she has to cover multiple subjects and the time she's alloted to teach history is a joke. She can't stand the fact that it's so badly pushed off to the side and only covered enough to meet the bare minimum requirements. The fact is that the teachers don't have any freedom to cover subjects they feel are important. They are under such a time crunch to teach to the STARR test so that their students can proceed to the next grade and the school can gain whatever silly qualification from the State. If you want your kid to know where he comes from and the very colorful and vibrant history of this great country, I suggest you get to work, because it just ain't happening in our public school system, unfortunately.

To be clear, I don't expect my kids elementary school to teach WWII. I just thought it would be nice to recognize it.

It's my job to make sure my kids know what it is and its historical importance.
