    first mule deer

Well this weekend was a one of the best I can remember. Got to spend it with some great friends and killed my first mulie. We go to the lease later Friday night (around 1100) instead of hunting Saturday morning we ran cameras and filled feeders. No great pics on the cameras but a good 3.5 year old that should be 150 next year. Anyways my friend (jaybird8791) and I got into the stand around 600 on Sunday. Around 0800 we saw a MONSTER mulie break the ridge behind the feeder. At 400 yds this guy's looked huge. We look at each other and both say "let's get after him". We immediately pack our stuff and get on our stand. We get to the ridge where the huge buck crossed the ridge only to realize that he was now on the neighboring ranch. We sit and watch the adjoining ridges on our ranch for a long while, seeing nothing. By this time it's getting to be late and we decide to head back to the jeep and head to camp. As we walk back we are watching the ridges spotting through binoculars. As we round the last bend before the jeep I tell my buddy "it smells like a rutted buck", we walk another 30-40 yds and a mulie jumps up and bolts. I wait to get a clear view of him. As he bounds down the hill over the sage I immediately recognize that mulie hop and see an impressive rack, he continues for 200 yds. I run 10 yards to get a steady rest. As he is running away he presents a hard quartering shot. I squeeze a round off and can immediately tell it's a hit. He runs a another 20 yds and stops And turns brosdside, I send another round down range, this time he hunches up. He runs left then right and stops. I shoot again, a clear miss. The buck falls over and starts kicking in the air. He's done and I'm pumped! What an experience. Thanks Jay for sticking with me!

You lucky dog! I've been waiting for the story all day. That is one sweet mulie Micah. I'm a bit jealous, but glad you got him. Wish I would have still been there to see him in person. Congrats buddy.
