I don't know about yalls weekend but I hope it was as good as mine. It all started with Friday we went and made sure my fiancee's rifle was hitting where it needed to be. Saturday morning we we got to see a spike up close and personal at 10 yards and I shot at and missed a Bobcat I felt bad because even though it was a hard shooting position it was only at 60 yards or so with my deer rifle and I felt I was a better shot then that. I ended up taking my fiancee home so she could take care of some baking she needed to get done and drove back out to our place to meet my dad for the evening hunt. We decided to hunt different stands and I decided to hunt a stand that has not been hunted all year. A little before dark a big pig walks out at about 100 yards or so and I figured I would make sure my gun is truly where I think it is and shoot him between the eyes. Ended up dropping him like a sack of bricks. He ended up being the biggest pig I have ever shot. When I got back to my fiancee's house, I told my son that my fiancee and I were going to take him on his 3rd hunting trip in the morning. Sunday morning rolls around and we got to the stand a little late, didn't need a flashlight to get there. I get in the stand and get them situated and the heater going. I'm still unloading my stuff when Karen (my fiancee) says I see a deer. Sure enough there was a deer looking right at us, after a starring match for a minute or two it decided to get out of there. I finished getting unloaded and let Kenni (my son) play with the binoculars a little bit. At about 8am I look over and there is the same spike from the day before walking towards us picking up acorns and oat. I get Kenni up in my lap so he can see him, the spike sticks around a little bit but then decided to go a different direction. So I tell Kenni to sit back down in his chair. No sooner then he is back in his chair I see another deer, one with more horns about to jump in the feed pin. I get the binoculars up and see that he is an 8 point but both of his brow tines broke off. I let him get in the feeder pin and start eating before I get Kenni in my lap, so he can see him. Karen already has her gun up and looking at him, she says "He is legal. If he turns broadside can I shoot him?" I say "If you tell me first so I can cover Kenni's ears" Well he finally turns broadside but when he does he immediately jumps out of the feed pin and behind some trees. I go to tell Karen I know where he is going to pop out next but she already knows and gets her gun over there. Finally after a forever wait he pops out of the trees and on the road. Karen says "Im going to shoot him." I replied with "OK, I have Kenni's ears covered" The gun goes off I see the buck get hit and he makes the death run out of sight. Kenni starts yelling "I didn't jump when mommy shot the big buck, lets go get the big buck and take him home!" Karen was asking "Why did he ran off? I felt good about the shot. Did I miss him?" I said "No, you hit him. He is dead I have seen that run before." He wasn't but maybe 20 yards in the brush. I dragged him out on to the road (with the help of Kenni, lol) and took pictures. When I field dressed him I'm not sure how he even made it 20 yards the shot was perfect and his heart was blown to pieces. I am so proud of my fiancee on her first buck. He may not be a monster buck but he will probably always be her favorite. We decided to get him shoulder mounted since it was her first buck. My fiancee said when she dropped Kenni off at day care this morning, he was going around and telling everybody about the big buck his mommy shot. Thanks for reading and sorry for the long read, but we are so happy I had to post it all.
