    Accurate?

How accurate a shot are you? what is an acceptable grouping? 5 out of 5 on a business card at 20 yrds, same at 30 or 40 yrds?...5 out of 5 on a pie plate at 60? I am just curious as to what people see as accurate?

For me 2" at 20yds is good. 5" at 40. That is my standard for myself.

I use just a standard MOA relation ......with a rifle it would be a inch at 100 yards, 2 inches 200yrds and so on, at 100 yards I shoot 1/4-3/8 groups, thats good...

Same with my bow, 10-20 yards I would say a inch is accurate..30 yards 3 inch groups for the average person, and increase by a inch for ever 10 yards you go up....60 yards 6 inch groups, but most people can shoot better than that, I know I can....may groups stay pretty tight out to 50 yards then increase to around 3 inches at sixty...

I feel I am competent, I actually shoot the same size groups as you are describing TuffBroadhead. Col. Jeff Cooper, once said( and I apply this to archery) "A sub MOA rifle is like a 200 mph sportscar, fun, but just academic. Consistently putting a bullet(substitute arrow) into the vitals is the objective and an animal knows not whether it came from a $2000 rifle or an old 30-30." I mention that because while, I,we, strive for perfection, a double lung is a double lung and the deer will not know whether you shoot at pie plates or beer bottle caps for practice

            I agree completely Derek!

            BUT

If we strive for pie plates we will never be able to hit a bottle cap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would hope that any bow hunter strives for bottle caps and not pie plates. In my opinion, if you are happy with a pie plate group at 20 to 30 yards you have no business in the woods with a bow. We owe it to the animals that we hunt to be the best that we can be. I have a friend that guides day hunts, opening weekend he had 6 deer shot and none recovered. This is what happens when we are sasitisfied with pie plate accuracy.

Aim Small Miss Small! I aim at the same 1" dot at 70 as I do at 20.

I strive for 1 shot groups. The first shot is typically the only one we get. I shoot at a 3" bullseye and all my arrows strike it out to 60 yards.

                      depends on the bow
traditional 3" @ 20 yds and im happy
compound w/ 6x lens if i get 3" @ 80 yds im giving it up!

I am very accurate. I will not tell how good I am on a post any more. The last time it got a big fight going. Let me just say this. At one time I practiced with the United States Airforce Sniper Shooting Team out at Air Base at Ft Worth. Carswell if I spelt it right. We would load up and go to a place called Tac Pro down off I-20 by Gordon Tx. 1000yrd range. I have not been invited in a while, seems they get a little pissy when you out shoot all there snipers........My wifes cousin is the cordanator for all the Texas Sniper Matches out of Carswell..........

I hit what I aim at. and I strive to do the same in archery...
