    Rifle experts....heavy recoil scope mount?

I have a TC Pro Hunter .300 win and after two boxes it literally blew my scope back off the rings a half inch....so I tightned it down even more and after another box it did the same thing. I have come to the conclusion that my weaver style mount rings are not designed to withstand the constant pounding from the .300 recoil

Anyone have the same problem or can you recommend a different style mount for heavy recoil?

make sure your scope is still ok, we had that happen to t8's old 270.wsm and it broke the crosshairs. they were sitting in the bottom of the scope lol

My dad had one that would do that and he went to a gun smith and they welded some scope rings in place

most 1 piece mounts should work try Control(sp).300 mag isn't all that heavy recoil, bad scopes or mounting is more suspect than anything.338 and up may be considered heavy recoil...we have a old solid 4x on a 375 that has never gave any problems...and it kicks! One thing I can say is stay away from center fire scops that have been mounted on air rifles and most Simmons and Leupold Rifleman series products, pay for a premium scope and thats what you get!

Loupold makes some rings that has grooves machined in them that grip the scope tube much better than smooth rings.
also make sure everything is uber clean...

I had a 300 weatherby mag with a muzzle brake and had a huge zeiss 30mm tube, 56mm bell scope that required superhuman effort to get settled down. I ended up having some rings machined out that would handle it. this was before I knew about the loupold rings...

              rloving,
scope size, weight and mounting distance above barrel are as big a part of the problem as recoil of the rifle.

You shouldn't be having a problem on a 300 win, even with a heavy scope. Your problem may be that your rings are actually not making much contact with your scope. Even with good factory tolerences, when you take a production gun and rings, the scope tube often only makes contact with a small part of the ring surface. Have a smith lap the scope rings or buy a kit at MidwayUSA. After lapping the lower rings rough up the surface slightly prior to mounting the scope.

I'm not too familiar with the available TC mounts, but would get ones without windage screws like the leupold dual dovetail. Talley makes great rings also, then there is the whole tactical type like badger ordnance which are rock solid.....

Shoot leupold rings. You'll never have problems again.

They're the only rings I'll ever put on any gun.

You get what you pay for. I use Leupold on my rifles and I am very hard on them and they never move. Look at nightforce and badger oridance they both make rings and bases that are 50 cal rated. You shouldnt be able to move those.

ditto to what everyone said above....i know you read what happened with my new ruger 300 win mag. same story. but it also broke the scope. i tried the ruger rings that came with the gun (i switched to stainless rings to match the leupold scope and metal on my gun) they worked but i have heard bad things about ruger rings on hard hitting calibers...so i got some leupolds and they are doing an awsome job, although i then got the muzzle break and went through all that for nothing. i second the leupold rings. very well built.

also what unlucky(i guess lucky now lol) said i had the very same problem with a winchester model 70 270 wsm a year ago. crappy rings not only cost me money in ammo bt several hundred in a broken simmons scope...TWICE. long story short i got the leupold rings and all was well again. i didnt notice that the rings had broke loose and shot again and there went the scope.

I agree with the leupold rings. I am shooting them on my 50 cal muzzleloader and they prove true.

This is a simple fix. Get a good scope and as stated get Leupold rings and bases, lap the rings and set according to recommended lbs.
