    Getting rid of SHIN SPLINTS

Started getting these about 1.5 years ago and it really curbed exercise for me and now I'm paying the price.
I've tried numerous times to get back into the running game but the shin splints come into play 3-5 days in every single time and sometimes get to the point where I don't even want to walk the rest of the day.

I've read rest and stretching is about all you can do so Im curious if thats true or if you guys know anything else that may help?

Any help would be much appreciated

I got them in College playing soccer. They had me doing exercises to strengthen them. That seemed to help. Look up "shin splint exercises". Should give you something. I no longer get them but now I'm old . But it did help when I was in college.

I had them for years. I finally got rid of them (10 years now) after doing the shin splint exercises and getting fitted for my running shoes. I also made adjustments to my stride but for me that took time.

Custom orthotics can help. I get mine in Arizona from a former pro hockey player/Yankee trainer/does orthotics for all of the spring training baseball teams in Arizona, got them when I lived there.

I got them because I have knee problems, but shin splints are also a cause for people getting them. These aren't like Dr. Scholls, they are a corrective action to something you are doing wrong. They work wonders. I live in Houston now and I know there are doctors here that do them, not sure about CS.

In for info. I used to get them when i would first start running after not running for a while. This last time I started back up I did not get them and I've been running more than I ever have. Then out of no where I got them after running last Monday for only 3 miles

I have always heard that you get them from your shin muscles being smaller or weaker because you have larger and stronger calves. The exercises as well as fitted shoes that are fitted for your type of sole are suppose to fix the problem. Good Luck!!!
